Meet Erica Dee, a High Vibe Canadian Songstress

Every now and then, an album comes along that is so moving, I forget all other music exists and play it on repeat for months at a time. I’m only a few days into my current listening binge, but I can tell I’m gonna be stuck on this for a while. My current musical obsession is Erica Dee’s debut solo album New Skies. It’s melodic, uplifting, dance-worthy, and emotionally stirring in all the right ways.

I first discovered Erica Dee when I stumbled upon her set at a festival. Her connection to the audience was genuine and palpable. Despite playing during the hottest part of an already sweltering day, Erica delivered a stellar performance. Her soulful voice and rhythmic beats kept the crowd dancing and smiling throughout her entire set. Everyone loved her, especially me!

Learning more about her, it’s not hard to see why she creates such a powerful connection to her fans. Erica Dee’s passion for music extends far beyond her album and deeply inspiring songs. A quick browse of her Facebook page reveals that she is hosting a musical summer camp for children in British Colombia, teaching them the art of song-writing and creative self-expression. Could she be any more fantastic?

Back to her album, New Skies. Produced by DJ Werd, featuring DJ Nu Mark & Mr. Lif, New Skies is an enriching experience from start to finish. The music is warm and friendly. It speaks to the part of the soul that longs for change and knows it’s possible. Future soul beats layered with rich harmonies, New Skies sounds like a call to action and that action is love. For each other, for ourselves, and most certainly, for the music. When asked about her music and what she hopes to bring to her listeners, Erica had this to say:

“My voice carries an energy that comes directly from my heart, it’s an urge to bring light and warmth into people’s lives while inspiring them to be true to themselves and what makes them feel authentic.”

You can hear the warmth and light in Erica’s voice, her melodies and lyrics offer comfort, understanding, and the sense that everything just might work out after all. New Skies encourages you to live in the light. It’s the most honest, progressive, dare I say, enlightening, album I’ve heard in years, perhaps ever.

Despite New Skies being her first ever full-length solo album, Erica Dee is no stranger to musical success. She toured with DJ Shadow, and performed with gifted artists, such as Quest Love, Mark Farina, Masta Ace, Lil’ Kim, Nneka , Thievery Corporation, Erick Morillo, Justin Martin, and Bassnectar.
