The idea for these Raw Vegan Chocolate Orange Tarts has been swimming around in my head for a few weeks now, just waiting for the opportunity to come to life and delight the senses.
Let me tell you, they did not disappoint. Typically when I’ve been thinking of a recipe for a while, there’s always the chance they won’t taste as good as I imagined. In some cases however, the recipe far exceeds my expectations and I do happy dances in my kitchen. This is one of those times!
These Raw Vegan Chocolate Orange Tarts taste WAY BETTER than I ever dreamed they would. They are decadent and flavorful while still being healthy and easy to prepare. What could be better than that?
Raw Vegan Chocolate Orange Tarts
Rich, creamy chocolate orange hazelnut mousse in a raw brownie crust. Flavorful and healthy, but tastes incredibly decadent.
Ingredients
Tart Shells
- 1/2 cup hemp seeds
- 1/4 cup raw cacao
- 1/2 cup dates packed tight
- juice and zest of 1 small orange
- pinch sea salt
Filling
- 1 cup raw hazelnuts
- 1/2 cup raw cacao
- 1/2 cup agave nectar
- juice and zest of 2 small oranges
- pinch sea salt
- 1 orange for garnish
Instructions
-
Soak the hazelnuts for four hours or overnight to soften, then drain. In a food processor, combine all tart shell ingredients. Process until smooth then divide the mixture into 4 mini tart molds. Press the shell into the mold evenly.
-
Add the soaked hazelnuts into the food processor along with the other filling ingredients. Process until smooth, then spoon the filling into the tart shells. Garnish with slices of orange and orange zest.
Recipe Notes
Replace the hazelnuts with additional hemp seeds to make this dessert nut-free.
Tastes best after being refrigerated for 2-3 hours before serving.Â
There’s something about making raw desserts that I just love, and these Raw Vegan Chocolate Orange Tarts are no exception. They are just so damn dainty and cute! Fruits, nuts, and seeds are some of the healthiest foods one can eat, so combining them into a dessert feels like a life hack. Who knew eating dessert can actually be good for you?!
I love eating dessert so much that I have a pretty firm rule that I never buy sweets. I can only have them if I go through the trouble of making them myself. Even then, I try to give most of what I make away otherwise I’ll eat dessert for breakfast, lunch, and dinner until it’s gone!
My husband used to have a sweet tooth as well, but he no longer brings any dessert home cause he knows I’ll devour it before he ever gets a chance. Smart guy! I try to make it up to him by creating healthy vegan gourmet desserts every week or so. Seems like a fair trade, yeah?
I had so much fun making our 5 Ingredient Vegan Butterfingers, that these Raw Vegan Chocolate Orange Tarts seemed like the next logical step. With the holidays coming up, expect to see way more desserts and chocolate on the blog. Are you excited yet?
